A significant awareness-raising event was held in Trani as part of the European project PRAISE: Preventing Radicalization Within European School Education. The meeting, organized by Petit Pas, took place in September 2025.
The event featured a successful collaboration between a high school (Liceo De Sanctis Trani) and a non-profit organization (Co-labory), both active in the field of youth and education. Dozens of people attended, with a group primarily composed of students, complemented by teachers and youth workers.
The day produced concrete insights and highlighted effective strategies. Among the key outcomes, participants identified the
digital boardgame as the most effective tool presented. They appreciated its interactive approach and its ability to engage students in complex scenarios, fostering reflection and dialogue in a safe learning environment.
Critical thinking was identified as the most important skill for students to resist radicalization. The need for students to be able to analyze information independently, recognize propaganda, and question extremist narratives was stressed. Furthermore, participants agreed that priority should be given to an
integrated approach involving both students and teachers. It was deemed crucial to train teachers to recognize early warning signs while simultaneously empowering students’ resilience skills.
Events like this are fundamental for the dissemination of the PRAISE project and underscore the urgency of addressing the topic of radicalization. The project aims not just to inform, but to provide practical tools to create safer European school environments.
Preventing extremism is one of the essential roles of education in promoting a culture of peace and non-violence. Networking schools, organizations, and young people, as happened in Trani, creates a conscious and unified front. Initiatives like this are crucial for protecting the new generations, providing them with the necessary skills to become active and aware citizens and to minimize the negative impact of conflicts and irrational behaviors.
